Child Protection and CSE training for carers
A number of Wessex and South West foster carers attended a child protection and child sexual exploitation training on 13 09 2018, facilitated by Dialogue.
Topics covered were an update of current statistics and links to looked after children, categories of abuse, brain development (Bruce Parry – American psychologist), Finkelhor’s precondition model of child sexual abuse, grooming, missing and child sexual exploitation and contextual safeguarding – working together to safeguard children (2018). The course also covered adolescent risk taking, financial exploitation, issues around consent, whilst drawing on various training methods e.g. group discussion, video clips etc. The trainer provided a detailed and comprehensive training course, with a number of references for further reading.
All carers engaged positively with the training, also providing positive feedback. The trainer said she enjoys training TFF foster carers and staff, as we present as very professional, motivated and caring.
Feedback from the carers included:
“The trainer talked about personal experiences, which was very interesting. It wasn’t just text points or PowerPoint. I was able to focus for the whole of the training.”
“There was loads of really important information, that has helped me to feel more confident in my role.”
“Good informative course, very relevant.”
An interesting and thought provoking day.
